Las Posadas
The holiday, also known as “Posada” (Spanish for inn or lodging), has been a Mexican tradition for over 400 years. Las Posadas honors the journey Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe place to stay where Mary could give birth to Jesus. The tradition is celebrated for nine nights, between Dec. 16 and Christmas Eve. Each night, children dress up as angels and lead a procession of carolers and family through town. At the end of each night, family and friends celebrate with food, music and piñatas.
